1.     Educated and knowledgeable fitness experts. Thompson tells WebMD that "more people are expected to turn to educated professionals," even though those trainers cost more. "More states are considering legislation to license personal trainers. People want the best." The ACSM says in a news release that an increasing number of organizations are offering health and fitness certifications, which Thompson says is a positive development. Thompson says one reason people want pros is that "more and more people are getting injured using untrained personal trainers."

2.     Strength training. This is still a mainstay for a complete fitness training program.

3.     Core training. Central body training focusing on the abdominals, lumbar back region increasing posture strength and stability training

4.     Exercise and weight loss. More people are likely to look for exercise programs that include nutritional advice combined with a balanced workout regimen that will yield higher results.

5.     Boot camps. Designed to resemble a military basic training .  These camps are becoming more popular because it incorporates cardiovascular, strength, endurance, and flexibility drills in indoor and outdoor settings.

6.     Functional fitness & cross training. This is a trend toward using strength training to improve balance and ease of daily living.  Cycling , running, weight training

7.     Physician referrals. By partnering medical professionals with health and fitness professionals the physicians & chiropractors and fitness trainers can integrate exercise into the lives of patients

8.    Yoga. Yoga has become more notable in fitness as many have reaped great flexibility, strength, core strength and ease of back pain additionally it has a great affect on reducing stress through meditation and spiritual focus.

9.     Spinning (indoor cycling). Great Popularity in fitness clubs,  excellent cardio and endurance training combined with instructors and high tempo music improve the group dynamics and motivation

.
11.   Worksite health promotion. Worksite health promotion programs rose from No. 20 to No. 12. Employers have recognized that having healthier workers will result in lower health care costs and less absenteeism and are either incorporating corporate gyms in the workplace or offering incentives to join at discounted corporate rates to large health clubs..

12.   Group personal training. This trend allows personal trainers to provide personalized advice and programs. Training two or three people at one time makes good economic sense for trainers and the clients to train at a reduced hourly rate in a tough economy.

13.   Fitness programs for aging population Some aging baby boomers have more discretionary money than younger folks and will be seeking certified trainers to design "age appropriate fitness programs," Thompson says

14.   Worker incentive programs. The trend makes the Top 20 for the first time. Employers are creating incentive programs to stimulate health behavior change for employees in order to reduce absenteeism and costs of health insurance.

15.   Clinical integration/medical fitness. This is a trend toward integrating and blending of prevention and clinical services. This is the first time this trend has made the Top 20

16.   Pre-owned Commercial Equipment Gyms replacing equipment with refurbished or pre-owned fitness equipment to meet budget reductions in a slow economy as more and more large commercial fitness equipment companies fail this trend will grow.
